teaching & pedagogy
Over the past three years, I have been steadily engaged in building a teaching portfolio for discipline-specific & interdisciplinary courses in global public health & environmental sciences. My teaching experience includes a public health graduate-level course at UNC Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health, which I have been Instructor-of-Record for since Spring 2023. The course focuses on public health in practice & the ins-&-outs of a 200-hour service practicum for students in the United States & globally. I have coached & mentored 130+ students on securing & conducting their public health service practicums with community-based organizations.
As a PhD student, I currently serve as a Teaching Assistant (TA) for a 40-student graduate course on Statistical Modeling for Environmental Management, teaching 2 laboratory sessions each week for 10 weeks throughout the term on using statistical software for data analysis. I was also a TA for an 80-student undergraduate course on Environmental Sciences & Policy at Duke University last fall, leading 7 discussions with 20 students throughout the semester on interdisciplinary climate, environment, & health topics throughout the term, as well as providing a guest lecture to the entire class on these interdisciplinary topics.
I look forward to continuing to grow my teaching portfolio & pedagogical methods grounded in anti-oppressive teaching principles, including but not limited to the following areas:
quantitative & qualitative methods in global health, climate, & toxicology
environmental justice & community resilience in the face of climate-related challenges
systems issues in air & water pollution studies
political economy & ecology of health & air pollution
methods to employing an interdisciplinary lens to the climate & health nexus (bridging natural & social sciences)
mis/dis-information & obstruction in the climate information ecosystem, particularly vested interests in framing & messaging (including stalled political action & quiescence strategies)
